Recognised Prior Learning

RPL Handbook   RPL Application Form

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) recognises that people who have the knowledge and skills required for competency in various units or modules of an accredited training course should not be required to re-learn what they already know.

Recognition of Prior Learning takes into account that various competencies can be acquired through:
  • formal or informal training and education;
  • work experience;
  • general life experience, and/or;
  • any combination of the above.

To apply for Recognition of Prior Learning students will need to complete the RPL form and provide supporting evidence.

Evidence may include:

  • Interview/professional conversation
  • Observation and questioning including workplace visits
  • Portfolio of work, which may include completed assessment items from previous study
  • Supplementary assessment tasks or challenge test - oral, written or practical
  • Assessment where no training is involved
  • Trade test
  • Authentication of evidence by supervisor or employer
For more information on the RPL process refer to the RPL Handbook or contact the HB Training team.
